 Sergeant DeVenney with Rico.
Sergeant Brent DeVenney of Buda and Deputy Chad Hall of Manlius are assigned as the Canine Officers for the Bureau County Sheriff's Office in Princeton, Illinois.
Rico is now an eight year old Belgian Groenendael and entered service under the direction of Sergeant DeVenney in October of 2003. Rico has been trained in a variety of disciplines, such as tracking (of significant interest in missing persons cases), Drug Detection (all of the current street drugs), and Handler Protection (do not try and pet him!). We are very pleased with this team's performance to date. Deputy Hall with Chica.
Deputy Chad Hall was teamed with Chica in November of 2008. Chica is a two year old Belgian Malinois. Like Rico, Chica has been trained in the same disciplines, all of which remain of great importance to the safety of our community. Deputy Hall and Chica (like Sergeant DeVenney and Rico) are called upon frequently to support both the Sheriff’s law enforcement obligations and the obligations of our local city police and the Illinois State Police.
Sheriff John Thompson maintains the value of these officers and their canine companions cannot be established in the total of their cost, but more in the added safety and support they continue to provide to our community. Chica demonstrating some of her training.
